Our Grounds & Spaces
A Dramatic and Stately Room for any occasion.
The stately Grand Hall overlooking the indoor Garden Courtyard makes for a breathtaking entrance to your event. The hall’s original arched clerestory windows and skylights create a dramatic light-filled space. Classical detailing and artistry abound, from intricately hand-carved floret adornments to rich-toned, marble-paved flooring.
Richly appointed and nautically-themed in a nod to our Ocean State, our Ship Room affords celebrants a showcase of the Library’s Brownell Collection of Atlantic Coast Ship Models and other rarities from the PPL Special Collections.
EXPERIENCE OUR CITY GARDEN
The indoor Garden Courtyard provides guests with a breathtaking setting in the heart of the City, reminiscent of 19thcentury classical European estate gardens. A great location for a cocktail reception, rehearsal dinner or meeting, the Garden Courtyard is also our most popular dance floor location.
A PERFECTLY ELEGANT SPACE
A traditional library reference and research room, the Providence Journal Rhode Island Room houses and displays the Library’s unique Rhode Island Collection and offers a formal space for an elegant dinner or luncheon.
A Multi-Function Room
One of our more modern spaces, our meeting room is equipped with A/V.
Luxurious and Functional
The beautifully appointed Trustees Room is available as a bridal suite or for smaller meetings.
Guidelines & Catering
Russell Morin Catering & Events at the Providence Public Library
Providence Public Library underwent renovations in 2012, transforming into a magnificent event space. Built in 1900, the Library is a prime example of turn-of-the-century American architecture. It traces its architectural pedigree to the Sansovino’s Library in Venice and the Libraire de Ste. Genevieve in Paris, and still further back, the Italian palaces of the Renaissance period.
For a wedding, your rental will include the Grand Hall, indoor Garden Courtyard, Ship Room and Bridal Suite. For larger guest counts, we also offer the Providence Journal Rhode Island Room as an additional rental space. These spaces are truly unique, and we invite you to customize the use of each of them to create your-one-of-a-kind wedding day! Since no two weddings will be alike at the Library, we assure a truly unique experience for you and your guests. Not only will you choose how to use each of the spaces, but you can select any style of tables and chairs to enhance your vision.
We also welcome corporate groups for day meetings or evening receptions. We can meet most needs with additional options like our Barnard Room, Trustees Room and Auditorium.
Wedding rentals are any five hours for reception or any six hours for ceremony and reception with an end time no later than midnight. The bride and vendors are allowed access to the facility three hours prior to the start of the event.
The space can be rented for smaller increments of time for day time meetings or corporate occasions.
